I have it on very good authority that the quality of diesel in Dubai is pretty appalling and is really only suitable for commercial vehicles.

Audi have recently launched their Q7 diesel to the Dubai market, so all eyes will be watching to see how the engine management systems cope with the poor fuel it’s being given.

For us petrolheads however, the news that the petrol is OK and very cheap, means that the majority of vehicles in Dubai are large 4 wheel drive V6s or V8s. It can cost as little as the equivalent of around £12 to fill a tank with fuel, although you’ll probably burn must of that up sitting in traffic jams or cranking up the air-con.

The Dubai bus system has a poster stating ‘Dubai – where the map changes every day’. How very true – when the highway you used yesterday to get to work is closed today and you have to figure out a detour!
